Nightlife

Koh Samui nightlife, aside from the plentiful supply of restaurants and ever growing list of 5 star hotels, is mainly found in Chaweng and Lamai, consisting of hundreds of bars of every description, usually open all day, with music to suit every taste, be that 60's hits, house, techno, jazz, r&b, blues or pop, to name a selection. You can even find some nightlife with no music at all!

The real night scene is centred on The Reggae Pub, with a good selection of live bands(certainly not only reggae) and The Green Mango, which features a variety of stages where dj's entertain the crowds. The soi's around both locations are peppered with beer bars that boast a seemingly endless supply of bar girls competing for your attention. You can also find a couple of impressive Go Go bars in the locality, not to forget Christie's with its ladyboy cabaret! Chaweng offers an ever changing nightlife scene, whereas Lamai is a little quieter, although the general feel is wilder with ever so many beer bars! Most places are open air.

If you are looking for a quieter scene without the bar girls head for Fishermans Village at Bophut, where you may wander the uncrowded but still busy main street that is full of restaurants and bars offering good food and live music in some.

Elsewhere the scene is quieter but every corner of the island boasts entertainment, especially around the coast and usually centered on food. Nathon, for example, whilst often being under rated in the guides and being undoubtedly much quieter, has a much more local feel. Don't leave without giving it a try!

Few places these days are able to dance the night away, but once the main clubs are closed around 1 a.m. you can usually find some restaurant/bars open, failing which head for the beach where things seem to carry on for a while longer.

Further afield, a boat ride away on Koh Phangan, can be found the famous full moon parties. No longer, it seems, restricted to the full moon, with half moon and black moon celebrations taking place.

The full moons can be very well attended so unless you fully intend to party the night away we suggest you make advance arrangements for sleeping it off in the safety and relative comfort of a place to call home for the night.(or day!) In this beach lifestyle location, relatively cheap accommodation is available.

Be aware that Thai laws against illegal drugs are severe and enforcement is active - even if it does not seem apparent. Final suggestion, leave your valuables and spare cash at home.

Soul Cafe

If I recall correctly this is in the Soi Green Mango and must be a contender for THE place to go for a good time with great pulsating music. An excellent night-at least, what I remember of it! Charlotte

Dream Girls

It took a while to persuade our mixed crowd to go in and there was a power outage for a period, which rather kills off the concept, but eventually good fun had by all. Particularly liked throwing ping pong balls at the girls! Great girls too! Phil

Tropical Murphys

I had never been upstairs before but if you are in to live music and a decent beer TM has got to be one of the best night spots in Chaweng. A good sound from suprisingly good bands, plenty of ceiling fans and a great atmosphere. Plus a good menu of food, if you really need to eat! Alex.
