Eating Out
Samui has developed into a food lovers paradise with a wide range of cuisine that belies the size of the island.
Start with the countless Thai restaurants and taste delicious authentic traditional specialties, especially the excellent, fresh, sea food. From small
family run and competitively priced beach restaurants to the more exclusive Thai haute cuisine available at countless locations, offering a wide variety
in atmosphere,
be it a secluded garden, beachside, terrace, road side or fully air conditioned restaurant.
If you really want to get a taste of what the locals eat why not try one of the many street vendors that offer tasty treats at very low cost?
Missing food from home or fancy your favourite International dish? Virtually all tastes are catered for on Samui with Italian, English, Swiss, German and Chinese
dishes on offer, usually also serving a selection of Thai food alongside the International.
It does not stop there- what about Japanese, Brazilian, Mexican, Creole, Vegetarian? Yes, all are available, along with many others not mentioned.
There are hundreds of bars serving food, many offering a wide range of satellite sports, music, quiz nights, themed music, along with a good selection of
live bands, both local and International. As Samui continues to evolve into a mature holiday destination the selection and quality of entertainment on offer
along with food will doubtless continue to expand and improve in quality.
Last but not least, you will also find a growing number of international fast food outlets- a true sign of the times!

The Shack Bar & Grill
Located in Fisherman's Village- choose from a small but big enough selection of food barbecued to your liking, whilst your host Larry (or Lally!) entertains as only he knows how. Excellent food and some good wines-not particularly cheap but well worth it. Best in my opinion is the fillet steak in red wine and the salmon. Definitely the best meal of the holiday Aug 2007. Enlarged recently with new partners cash, so usually some space available! Del.
The Cliff Bar & Grill
This restaurant has lovely views during the day but I go at night so it's gotta be for the food! A little expensive but good value considering the standard of food. Great service and good atmosphere. Plenty of space to sit without being squashed by the party next door. The chicken breast is out of this world. Ash.

On the beach at Ban Bang Makham, a typical Thai beach eatery just a cut above the rest. Not much in the way of European food but who needs that? Very popular with the locals so that says a lot. A great pineapple rice and lots of sea food. Closes at 10 pm though so don't be late! Prices are VERY good too. Helen
Three Monkeys, Chaweng.
This place came very well recommended in the local press so I was looking forward to it greatly. What a shame- pool table in bad shape, service so slow the word cannot be used and I ended up with food poisoning. I had one manky shrimp and refused to eat the rest, but it was too late! It may have been an off day (aside from the pool table) but I for one will not be going back. Kirsty
Coco Blues
Not my first time at Coco as I love live music but it seems that audiences are down somewhat, which is a shame. Food is good, service on my night was questionable and lots of confusion over what had and had not been paid for. Crying out for some active management I reckon! Beer selection nowhere near as good as last year, but I guess you can only stock what sells. Still a good place to go if you are into rock, blues and suchlike. Phil
Tropical Murphys
We had a great night, eating proper pub grub in a busy place, good natured service from the girls, followed by an excellent live band later upstairs- even if they got as bit lost doing the diddly stuff for too long. I used to come here for the beer-and still do, but the selection is down on last year- no Bass, no micro brew.....Kilkenny saved the day! Cigars reasonably priced too!! Tony.
The Pub-Fishermans Village
Hosted for much of the time by Steve Wilson, The Pub must be a serious contender for the Samui Breakfast Crown-a first class feast from 9am onwards! Not that you will Steve at that time, of course, but Mrs Steve is much better to look at anyway! Rick.
